I've got a confession. I really like pop tarts. Yes, I'm a fan of these toaster pastries brought to market in 1964. I don't eat them as much as I did back in the day, but I do know that if I saw them on the menu of one of the best barbecue spots in the nation I'd buy some to eat there and a batch to take home.
It just so happens that 2M Smokehouse in San Antonio now offers homemade pop tarts. YES. They have pop tarts.
It's really hard to imagine things could get better at 2M Smokehouse, but this adds another dimension to their creativity and expertise.
The person behind these pockets of goodness is Pastry Chef Grecia Ramos (2M's co-owner Esaul Ramos is her husband) who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in August of 2020 and makes all the desserts for 2M. You can follow her instagram HERE.
Per Chef Grecia, "The pop tarts are a flaky buttery sweet dessert. With a natural home made filling. I love to work on fillings, most of the flavors are from staff picks or flavors we had growing up." She went on, "Esaul was my inspiration for pop tarts. He loves pop tarts and had a place here we’d stop by weekly to buy some. So after some recipe tweaking I think these are going to be a menu staple for sure!"
"I have a few rotating flavors right now: Blueberry, Cherry, Strawberry (a staple), PB&J, PB& chocolate, chocolate covered strawberry, strawberries and Nutella, cinnamon apple, and pina colada."
