Texas BBQ, Small Town to Downtown by Wyatt McSpadden - If you want to blow away and mystify a true fan of barbecue, get them this book. It is gorgeous. Wyatt is a master of capturing a BBQ joint as a living breathing entity. I find myself going through this often for inspiration and to just marvel at how beautiful an old pit can look or the beauty of a BBQ joint at 4:30AM appears before the sun rises. There's also a great essay by Daniel Vaughn and foreword by Aaron Franklin. $39.95

Rosenthal Meat Beef Jerky - The Rosenthal Meat Science & Technology Center in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University has been producing beef jerky since the 1980’s. Per the New York Times, “The curled husks looked like the bark harvested from a magical meat tree. There was an outdoorsy smokiness on the nose and a slowly unfolding flavor with a fierce black pepper finish.” They still do things the old-fashioned way, so they do not take orders online.
